Nestled into the beautiful green Surrey hills, part of the North Downs area of outstanding natural beauty, this semi-detached farmers’ cottage had not been touched since its construction in 1902 and had no indoor sanitary facilities or kitchen but it had a lot of charm. The renovation consisted of complete modernisation of the cottage including rewiring and installation of heating system. The design for the ground floor reconfigured existing spaces to create a lounge and separate kitchen and a new bespoke conservatory with stone and brick work to tie into the main cottage style. The first floor was reconfigured to create a family bathroom and two bedrooms plus enclosed staircase up to a newly converted loft space. The loft space created a double bedroom with French doors onto a new balcony overlooking the open countryside with distant views of the south downs, and a shower room. The project also encompassed landscaping to create a country cottage garden with a drive in and out driveway, garage, planting and high fencing to combat road noise, winding garden paths, a wildlife pond, and a decked terrace.
